Denver Botanic Gardens has launched a conservation genetics program to “accompany and enhance [its] rare plant monitoring, habitat restoration and invasive species research.” It will focus on plants native to the Rocky Mountain region.

Why do this?

By looking at DNA, we will be able to ask how populations of rare plants are related to one another, revealing their histories and possible futures. The results will help inform future protections and seed collection for many of the studied species.
