No, it’s not green eggs and ham. It’s an eco-friendly continental breakfast at Glass House Inn in Erie, Pennsylvania. Never in all my years of travel have a seen a motel do it up this way. Real plates and silverware! Watermelon! What motel serves watermelon? And the coffee service offers real cups. OK, they do have styrofoam for those who want their coffee to go, but that’s the only concession to the typical motel breakfast in this entire spread.
We stayed one night at this hotel, which cost somewhere around $50, and it was great. I wish I had taken pictures of the hitching posts in the shape of a horse’s head (Amish country) or the sign above the swimming pool.
If every motel breakfast looked like this one, we would be one small step closer to ridding the oceans of plastic pollution and saving the lives of countless birds and turtles.
That sounds like a wonderful deal for $50. Coffee in real cups is a treat.
Yeah, that’s how I feel about it. I don’t like the texture of a styrofoam cup.
I’ve stayed at this motel in the past. I’ve always had a great experience. The owners are most accomodating and some of the friendliest people we’ve ever met. Unfortunately, there aren’t more facilities out there like this one…this world has been commercialized beyond belief. Oh well, I guess you can’t stop progress….but you CAN support small, hidden gems like the Glass House Inn. I will stay there again and highly recommend it to all.
My husband and I love to find these places—he’s very good at it. Most of them, however, use styrofoam to serve breakfast. This is the only motel I’ve ever seen that provided reusable plates.
