One of the first restaurants Todd and I visited while living in Arcata, California, was Annie’s Cambodian Cuisine in Eureka. And the dish I had was memorable: Somlaw Machew Manoss, or sweet and sour soup. Tamarind and pineapple supplied the sweet and galangal the sour, sharing the small bowl with tomatoes, squash, garlic, basil, and chicken.
Google Maps shows a picture of the same location with “Mexican Restaurant” on the sign. Since there’s a review on Yelp from mid-May, I guess that sign predates Annie’s.
